What are the common nutritional mistakes that we commit? It tells us about proper nutrition in the diet which must be consumed and also what to eat and what not to. It also explores some interesting good facts about proper nutritional needs for us and also some common nutritional pitfalls one must avoid for a good health.
Mistake no. 1 – Skipping breakfast
Breakfast is considered to be the most important meal of the day. Skipping breakfast is one of the prime causes of mood swings especially early in the morning. Also, it elevates the risk of heart attacks and obesity. Research has shown that adult men who regularly skip breakfast are 27% more likely to suffer heart attacks. It is one of the prime reasons for mediocre performance, both mentally and physically.
Mistake no. 2 – Not consuming enough protein
We have a tendency to ignore protein rich food in our daily diet. Proteins are required for building muscle tissue, collagen, bones, neurotransmitters, some hormones and for liver detoxification. Research indicates that men eating a higher protein diet have less preoccupation with thoughts of food, and a decrease in late – night eating compared to men eating a normal protein diet. Thus, eating more protein rich food helps a great deal in controlling weight without cutting out the calories.
Mistake no. 3 – Not eating before or after workout
Your exercise session will be more productive if your body has the requisite amount of energy. A pre-workout meal consisting of carbohydrates, a little amount of fat and proteins can improve endurance and bodily coordination. After workout, it is imperative that you don’t wait for a long time to have your post – workout meal. You can eat a small meal that includes both carbohydrates and proteins. It will help in replenishing muscle glycogen stores and repair damaged muscle tissues.
Mistake no. 4 – Irregular fluid intake
Reduced fluid intake can cause dehydration which poses a serious problem, especially if you’re involved in straining tasks or if you exercise in hot and humid environments. Drinking fluids before, during and after exercise helps in maintaining adequate hydration levels, but don’t overdo it.
Mistake no. 5 – Fat phobia
Eating fat doesn’t actually make us fat. People get fat mostly because of sedentary lifestyles and having too many calories. Low protein diet will make you fat. It is important to realize that sometimes fat is good for health. There are subclasses of fats called ‘essential fats’ that we need to get in our diet. These essential fats can be obtained from cold water fish, nuts, seeds and olive oil. Eating healthy protein and fats helps in controlling blood sugar and keeps you energetic throughout.
Remember, you’re a performance machine that needs to stay healthy 24/7 in order to keep going. Avoid these common mistakes in your diet routine. Any change to your diet routine that helps you live a healthier, happier life is a change worth taking.
